Peru to host 10th World Potato Congress this month

Peru is the first Latin American country to host the World Potato Congress, whose 10th edition will take place in southern Cusco City on May 27-31, 2018.

According to National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) Head Miguel Barandiaran, this international congress will enable the Inca country to showcase its wide diversity of native potatoes, as well as its contribution to food security.

This international event will be attended by more than 800 scientific researchers, producers, and entrepreneurs —linked to the potato industry— from over 50 countries.

On the occasion, participants will share interests, innovations, and information useful for the growing of said tuber worldwide.

It must be noted potato is the third most important food crop around the world —after rice and wheat— in terms of human consumption.
