Senior officials, Ministers, and Leaders from the 21 APEC member economies are set to address key challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, such as climate change, sustainable energy, digital economy transition, and trade facilitation. They will explore policies aimed at helping economies navigate these pressing issues while fostering innovation and inclusiveness.
The issue of informality remains a persistent barrier to economic growth, limiting opportunities for millions. On November 12, the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) launched the new report E-formalization: How the digital economy can unlock and empower APEC economies. This report highlights how digital tools are simplifying bureaucratic processes, enhancing access to financing, and expanding MSMEs market reach through e-government procurement, e- payments, e-commerce platforms, and platform economy applications.
On Nov. 11-12, APEC SOM gathered Senior Official to finalize initiatives aimed at boosting trade and growth, as well as to shape the framework for developing and implementing joint policies. Their Regional Trends Analysis report will provide the basis for the week's policy discussions.
The week will conclude with the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on November 15-16, where strategies for future collaboration among APEC member economies will be discussed, following the APEC Ministerial Meeting on November 14.

The inauguration of the Chancay mega port, which will reduce transportation time on the route with Asia by 30%, will take place on November 14. Sixteen heads of state from the 21 economies that make up APEC expected to attend virtually. The ceremony will be held at the Government Palace to ensure the safety of all dignitaries present.
During November, the arrival of four vessels is anticipated, including the Cosco Tengfei, which will deliver a variety of goods to Peru, such as electric vehicles, agricultural machinery, and hydraulic excavators.
Julio Velarde, the president of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), stated that the Chancay port could potentially contribute up to 0.9% to Peru's gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025, highlighting the significant benefits this port terminal is expected to provide.
The Automotive Association of Peru (AAP) indicated that the launch of the Chancay port will attract significant foreign investment in the transportation, logistics and services sectors, which will benefit foreign trade and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, thus revitalizing the economy of Chancay and the entire Peru.

SCAJ 2024, the annual coffee festival that unites individuals from the global specialty coffee sector, took place in Tokyo from October 9 to 12. The Peruvian Trade Office in Japan organized Peru's participation in this B2B exhibition.
As the latest innovations and services that support the advancement of the coffee industry were showcased, a designated "coffee village" area featured small roasters, independent coffee shops, and home roasting establishments from across Japan. A final competition highlighted the skills of baristas. Training sessions, seminars, and workshops were led by industry experts.
The SCAJ 2024 theme was "Let's go full throttle into a new decade!". As a first initiative, the exhibition included events related to the SDGs, and featured the "New Products" area.

The International Specialty Coffee Fair (FICAFE 2024) recently took place in Huánuco from November 7 to 10, showcasing the talents of eighteen distinct regions renowned for their specialty coffee production. This event also highlighted the finest coffees from “alternative development” initiatives, with growers from VRAEM showcasing their exceptional varieties, including Bourbon, Geisha, and Típica, all supported by the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (DEVIDA).
A panel of 40 esteemed coffee experts from around the world gathered to evaluate the remarkable offerings from Peru's coffee producers. The fair also facilitated international business meetings, connecting local growers with buyers from Europe, North America, Asia, and Oceania. In conjunction with the fair, an International Coffee Congress provided a platform for industry professionals to exchange valuable insights and experiences, further enriching the event.
FICAFE 2024 was a true celebration of coffee culture, featuring exciting barista championships, cupping demonstrations, and exhibitions of cutting-edge machinery and technology related to coffee production. PERU MUCHO GUSTO, the gastronomic fair that has traveled through over 10 regions of Peru, made its way to Lima from October 31 to November 3 with one of its most ambitious editions yet. Under the theme "Flavors with History", the event highlighted how dishes serve as vessels for traditions, stories, and customs, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the country.
Attendees were treated to areas dedicated to traditional cuisines from different Peruvian regions, and a bakery section featuring representative breads from Lima, Junin, Ayacucho, and Loreto. There were zones for beverages, desserts, and even interactive stands that offered insights into the history and evolution of national gastronomy, making it a truly immersive experience.
The culinary festival boasted the presence of prominent figures in the gastronomic world, such as Pía León (Best Female Chef in Latin America in 2018, and Best Chef in the World in 2021), along with Micha Tsumura (owner of Maido, best restaurant in Latin America and fifth globally), and Rodrigo Fernandini (owner of the restaurants Artesano and Ayllu) all of whom shared techniques and recipes for some of the most delectable dishes from their culinary repertoire.

The 40th Anniversary of the AGRI-TRADE EQUIPMENT EXPO is scheduled to take place at Westerner Park in Red Deer from November 13 to 15, three days dedicated to discovering the latest advancements in equipment, technology, innovation, and services that define the global agriculture industry. This year, Agri-Trade expects to welcome visitors and exhibitors from around the globe, including representatives from Germany, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, and many more.
Each year, Agri-Trade features the AG INNOVATIONS COMPETITION, which highlights the creativity and ingenuity of manufacturers and marketers in the agricultural field. This year marks the 16th anniversary of the Ag Innovations program, providing visitors with the opportunity to experience the innovative concepts that the resilient agriculture industry has to offer.
A total of $25,000 in cash prizes will be distributed this year. Five finalists will compete live on stage for the $20,000 grand prize, while producers will also have the chance to participate in selecting the recipient of the "Farmers Choice Award," which carries a prize of $5,000.

For more than 25 years, the Salon du Chocolat in Paris has been a delightful event for chocolate lovers of all ages. Each year, the Paris Exhibition Centre becomes a hub of excitement as thousands of visitors gather to explore the offerings of numerous exhibitors showcasing their finest chocolate creations.
This year, the Salon welcomed the public on October 30, celebrating Peru's impressive 15th consecutive participation. PROMPERU proudly hosted a delegation of Peruvian cocoa producers and chocolate exporters from various regions, including San Martín, Huánuco, Cusco, Junín, Piura, Amazonas, and Madre de Dios, highlighting the rich diversity of Peruvian chocolate.
The Peruvian delegation started their experience at the Salon with visits to some of the finest chocolate shops in the city. The festivities included a stunning parade featuring chocolate dresses inspired by the theme “El amor nace en la Sierra” (Love is born in the mountains). Notably, designer Ricardo Dávila drew inspiration from the Junín region and its traditional dance, the “Chonguinada”, while Parisian chocolatiers Nicolas Morin and Andres Zakhour showcased their talents in crafting exquisite chocolate garments for both men and women.

The International Alpaca Association in collaboration with PROMPERÚ-MINCETUR, hosted the 8th edition of ALPACA FIESTA in Arequipa-Peru, from Oct.21 to 26. It was held in conjunction with PERÚ MODA DECO, a key highlight in Peru's clothing, gift, and decoration sector.
Recognized as the premier alpaca event globally, it aims to promote alpaca fiber within the international textile market, uniting breeders, businesses, and organizations associated with alpacas and South American camelids in a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.
The event featured a variety of activities, including Fashion Shows across different categories, an Innovation and Sustainability Forum, International and National Business Roundtables, a Textile Fair, Factory Tours, the Chaccu de Vicuña (a traditional shearing technique), National Alpaca and Llama Competitions, a South American Camelid Exhibition, and various Workshops.
As part of Peru Moda Deco, the JOVENES CREADORES AL MUNDO competition highlighted the versatility and high quality of Peruvian fibers on the global stage, providing a platform for emerging designers to express their creativity. Designer winner Monica Mauricio earned the opportunity to showcase her work at the next Peru Moda Deco and at the Peru Pavilion during EXPO OSAKA 2025 in Japan. Her collection, "Hijos del viento" (Children of the Wind), captivated audiences with its vibrant colors and was inspired by the "Pablitos", iconic figures from the Qoyllur Riti festival in Cusco.
