Introducing the 2024 Board of Directors!

The Peruvian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce held its 2023 Annual General Assembly virtually on Thursday, February 22, 2024 and announced its new Board of Directors.

We congratulate Sandra Barreto on the appointment of her as President, Sergio Mendoza as Vice-President, Leslie López as Director of Technology, and Eliana Oliveros as Director of Governance. All of them with a wealth of corporate experience that will shape the continued success of the Chamber.

The BOD would also like to express its deepest gratitude to Alexis Ricordi - former President; Luis Felipe Quirós - former Vice President; Ana Maria Villaran - Membership Director; and Omar Salas - Director, for their support and excellent services to the Organization during the last two years.

Peru Day at PDAC 2024

“Peru is Back”, maintaining its presence at PDAC as a Sponsor Country. Presentations at PERU DAY started with Welcoming Remarks by Oscar Benavides, President of the Peruvian Delegation of PDAC 2024, and Alberto Otarola, Peruvian President of the Council of Ministers.

Julio Velarde, President of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) presented "How did Peru end up in 2023?". Daniel Linsker, Partner and Director for the America, talked about "How does the World view us?". Romulo Mucho, Peruvian Minister of Energy and Mines, delivered "Measures to explore and boost Mining in Peru". Ricardo Carrión, Capital Markets Manager of Kallpa Securities SAB, presented "Conditions for Investment in Peru".

The innovation has been the introduction of “constructive dialogue tables”, where attendees had direct access to mining authorities and learn “how things work in Peru, what we are going to do”. The following day a CEO LUNCHEON was offered for Investors, Government and Industry. The Peruvian Cocktail closed the night.

March 04 - Peruvian Students shine at PDAC Frank Arnott Competition

The talent and dedication of Peruvian students have been highlighted once again in the international arena, when they were announced Winners of the prestigious Frank Arnott - Next Generation Explorers Award.

On March 4, two teams of Peruvian university students and geologists demonstrated their excellence in the interpretation of geoscientific data and the formulation of innovative projects:

The PACHA team, Grand Prize-winner, truly embodied the sense of international collaboration that the NGEA challenge aims to inspire. It's composed of students from the Universidad Nacional San Agustín (Peru), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Peru), Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile), Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (Ecuador) and the University of Queensland (Australia).

The RUMI Team, winner of the Impact & Exploration Category Award, is made up of students from the National University of Engineering (Peru), the National University of the Altiplano (Peru) and the Colorado School of Mines (USA).

International Women's Day

Achieving gender equality and women's well-being across the board is more crucial than ever if we are to build prosperous economies and a healthy planet. This year, the United Nations theme to commemorate International Women's Day is "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress".

On February 2024, at an investiture ceremony, the Governor General presented Peruvian professor, Dr. Raquel del Carpio-O’Donovan with the insignia of the Order of Canada, one of Canada’s highest honours, for her leadership as an esteemed neuroradiologist and for her mentorship of a generation of radiologists around the globe.

The PCCC congratulates and recognizes with admiration Dr. del Carpio O’Donovan contribution to our nation. As well, salutes the strength, courage and resilience of all women and their achievements in their various fields.

APEC in Lima: SOM1, Day 12

On March 06th, the twelfth day of the First APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1), delegates from the 21 member economies participated in the Policy Dialogue “Understanding the nexus between digital connectivity and formalization in Asia-Pacific”. Opening remarks were given by the Ambassador of Peru in Finland, Eric Anderson Machado.

Hernando de Soto, president of the Institute for Freedom and Democracy (ILD), participated in the event and highlighted the importance of formalization in the Asia-Pacific economies. He argued that informality is not a problem, but rather a temporary resource for those who lack access to formality.

Corrine Delechat, International Monetary Fund, presented "Addressing Informality: A Priority for Inclusive Growth". Norman Loayza, Director of the Global Indicators Group at the World Bank presented "Formalization: Digitalization Can Empower but not Replace a Better Business Environment". Rory McLeod, Economic Policy Consultant, presented "Structural Reform for the Digital Economy and Formalisation".

Later, a Welcome Dinner for Senior Officials and delegates was offered at the Lima Art Museum.

The Asociación de Mujeres Peruanas en Ontario - AMPO invites you to celebrate together, its 25th Anniversary. The event will take place at the MIMICO CRUISING CLUB, on Sunday, April 14, at 1 pm. The history of the Association and its humanitarian work will be presented with a Welcome cocktail, a delicious Lunch, and an entertaining Dance Show developing the afternoon.

In a special act, Mr Italo Acha, Consul General of Peru will deliver the recognition of the Foreign Ministry to fellow national María Elena Arribasplata de Paradela, President of the Association, for its meritorious humanitarian and social work in favor of the Peruvian community abroad.
