New potato varieties
Three new Potato varieties for the Peruvian growers

Three new potato varieties: CIP-Poderosa Crocante, CIP-Poderosa Pollera, and CIP-Poderosa Watia will be available in the second half of the year for the Peruvian growers. These 3 varieties are the result of a project of the International Potato Center (CIP), sponsored by CONCYTEC and financed by Compañia Minera Poderosa through Law 30309, which promotes scientific research, technological development, and technological innovation.   They seek to become an export source for high-quality potatoes.

Besides, the US space agency (NASA), together with the International Potato Center (CIP), carried out a research project, part of futuristic studies on the agricultural colonization of Mars. Of the 4,500 varieties of potato that exist, the Peruvian potato nicknamed Papa Marciana de Tacna was the winner, being the only one that proved capable of surviving in extreme conditions and would be the first food grown on Mars. But it will not be until after 2030 when the idea begins to take shape.
