PM Justin Trudeau landed in Northern California on Nov 15th to begin three days of meetings with other leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in San Francisco.
His first order of business was a bilateral meeting with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a like-minded liberal whose efforts to combat climate change have made him a prominent and valuable ally.
From there, Trudeau would attend a roundtable on food affordability and then appear at an APEC reception hosted by US President Joe Biden before a welcome dinner with tech leaders.
The main goals for Trudeau include promoting new Canadian efforts to encourage more efficient food production and healthier supply chains, as well as removing trade barriers with Pacific Rim countries. Also will seek tangible progress on policy priorities in the Indo-Pacific, during bilateral meetings with other APEC leaders. At least two bilateral economic initiatives with key Indo-Pacific partners will be on Canada's list of “deliverables.”
The Hon. Mélanie Joly (Minister of Foreign Affairs), and Mary Ng (Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development) will participate in the APEC Annual Ministerial Meeting. They will also accompany PM Justin Trudeau during his participation in the APEC Leaders Meeting in San Francisco.

Next year, Peru will hold the presidency of APEC. Thus, it will host the summit of the 21 economies that comprise it. Under a decentralised approach, the APEC agenda will be taken to 5 Peruvian regions, decentralising the venues during the year in which Peru will hold the Presidency of the bloc.
The northern city of Trujillo, due to its agricultural export potential and contribution to the GDP, was chosen to host the Food Security Week and the Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture in August 2024. The second venue will be Arequipa which, given its productive capacity and its enormous resource potential, will host the joint meeting between APEC Women and Foreign Trade Ministers, who will evaluate measures for the empowerment of women in foreign trade.
Likewise, due to its contribution to tourism and the national economy, the city of Urubamba – located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in the southern Andean region of Cusco – was chosen as the third venue, which will host the Meeting of Ministers of Tourism of the block. Meanwhile, the fourth venue will be Pucallpa, where meetings of ministers and working groups related to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) will be held.
Finally, Lima, city of entrepreneurs and driving force of the country, will not only host various meetings of the teams that are part of APEC but will also host the Economic Leaders Week of this mechanism in November 2024.

The future looks bright for developers and AI.
On November 6, AI hosted its inaugural developer conference in San Francisco: OpenAI DevDay, featuring keynotes, live demos, and deep-dive sessions. It was a historic moment for developers.
New AI capabilities and enhancements were announced that promise to change the game in terms of building, deploying, and scaling AI applications. Here's a look at some of them:
GPT-4 Turbo: a formidable upgrade from its predecessor. It handles an unprecedented 128K context, equivalent to 300 pages of text. This advancement, accompanied by significant cost reduction, paves the way for broader and deeper AI interactions.
Assistant API: Allows developers to create more complex, agent-like AI applications with persistent states and advanced tools for code execution, knowledge retrieval, and function calls.
Custom GPTs: These are custom versions of ChatGPT that developers or organisations can adapt for specific tasks or roles, and can be created without any coding knowledge, just natural language (i.e. simple instructions).
GPT Store: This will be a marketplace where these custom GPTs can be shared and monetized. Think of it as an app store for AI, where developers can publish their GPTs and potentially earn revenue based on user engagement.
Copyright Shield: A new feature designed to offer legal protection to users of the OpenAI platform. This initiative reflects an effort to address the complex legalities associated with creating content using AI and provide a layer of security for developers and companies using the platform.
With this measure, OpenAI not only offers a technological tool, but also guarantees peace of mind, allowing innovators to focus on creativity and development without the looming worry of legal repercussions for inadvertently generated content.
