Women have been interested in and dabbling in science for centuries, from ancient female chemists mixing perfumes to women astrologists learning about planets and stars. But sadly, a significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world.
Addressing some of the biggest challenges of the Sustainable Development Agenda – from improving health to combating climate change – requires taking advantage of all available talents. This means we need more women working in these fields.
February 11 is a reminder that women and girls play a decisive role in scientific and technological communities and that their participation must be strengthened.
The 9th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly will take place from February 8 to 9, at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Women leaders and scientific experts from around the world, government officials, representatives of international organizations and the private sector will discuss women's leadership to achieve the three pillars of sustainable development: economic prosperity, social justice and environmental integrity.

After the success of PERU MUCHO GUSTO in different regions of Peru, PROMPERU plans to take them abroad and use Peruvian gastronomy to attract tourism.
The experience of the gastronomic fair in Lima was quite successful, but it was even more so in Tacna and Tumbes where a large number of tourists attended, coming from Chile in the first, and from Ecuador in the second.
Promperú's plan is to hold at least one PERU MUCHO GUSTO food fair abroad in 2024. Among the countries that are considering bringing these events to promote tourism to Peru are the United States and Spain, two nations with a large number of Peruvians emigrants.
Innovative ways are being sought to reach some of these international markets with a different PERU MUCHO GUSTO and begin to use gastronomy as a window for the different projects carried out by PROMPERU.
From Tacna to the world !… Peru Mucho Gusto shares with you 3 new Pisco recipes with peruvian superfoods: "Atardecer del Valle", "Ponche de Olivo", and "Mujer Tacneña".

While AI offers enormous benefits, it also poses risks. Some of these risks are already materializing in harm to people and society. These damages are broadly referred to under the developing term of an "AI incident".
The OECD AI Incidents Monitor (AIM) documents AI incidents to help policymakers, AI practitioners, and all stakeholders worldwide gain valuable insights into the incidents and hazards that concretise AI risks. Over time, AIM will help show patterns and establish a collective understanding of AI incidents and their multifaceted nature and serve as an important tool for trustworthy AI.
While incidents in the media and academic publications are likely to be only a small subset of incidents, the data that does exist shows an exponential increase:
- A large number of fake videos impersonating Rishi Sunak on Facebook raise alarm over AI risk to election.
- A fake message from Joe Biden urging New Hampshire residents not to vote in the primary appears to be an AI deepfake and a sign of similar developments in the upcoming US presidential election.
- Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong warned the public about a fake cryptocurrency trading promotional video featuring him in a CGTN interview.

On Wednesday, January 17, the president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), Julio Velarde Velarde was part of the panel on "Economic Realism in Latin America".
In this session, the macroeconomic challenges of the region were analyzed and how to reconcile them with internal priorities and sustainable development. In addition, the financial and investment needs of the countries and their impact on fiscal pressures were discussed.
At the event, Velarde highlighted that the good news for the region is that inflation, which scared everyone at some point, is controlled and falling in the region, however, "growth is the problem" since some large economies of the region show certain stagnation.
Meanwhile, he raised the need to implement reforms in public management in the countries of the region, given that many of them have a serious problem of governance and quality in public services. He pointed out that, in the seventies, the weight of Latin America's GDP was three times that of Asia and that today it is only a third.
