Oct 04 Seminar: Public Procurement in Canada

The Embassy of Peru to Canada, the Consulates General of Peru in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto, Procurement Assistance Canada, the Peruvian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and Promperu Canada are pleased to invite you to a seminar on public procurement in Canada.

The main objective of this seminar is to familiarize Peruvian entrepreneurs based in Canada with the public procurement process (bids) at the federal level. They will then be able to serve as a link with Peruvian exporters to offer Peruvian goods and services to Canadian public entities. It will also allow them to participate in other bids in Canada.

Take this opportunity and hear from PAC (Procurement Assistance Canada) on how to succeed with the federal procurement process and start contracting with the Government of Canada!

G20 Labour and Employment Ministers Meeting (LEMM) - Outcomes

The meeting attended by the G20 Ministers of Manpower resulted in 5 essential documents.
1. Action Plan on accelerating and monitoring the G20 Principles for the labor market integration of persons with disabilities. 2. G20 Policy recommendations for Sustainable Growth and Productivity in human capacity development through strengthening Community-Based Vocational Training.

3. Policy recommendation on promoting entrepreneurship and supporting MSMEs as a job creation instrument. 4. G20 Policy principles on adapting labor protection for more effective protection and increased resilience for all workers. 5. Update of the G20 Skills Strategy to ensure every citizen gets a decent basic education, and access to continuous skill improvement.

Canadian Ambassador in Peru 2022
Canadian Ambassador presents copies of credentials in Peru

On September 14th, the Ambassador of Canada to Peru, the Honourable Louis-Clément Marcotte, handed over the copies of his credential letters to Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They were received by the General Director of State Protocol and Ceremonial, Minister Enri Prieto Tica. Soon, the Letters of credence will be delivered to the President of Peru at the Government Palace in Lima.

Ambassador Louis Marcotte obtained his Maîtrise in Political Science from the Université Panthéon Assas (Paris II) in 1990; and an MBA in International Management from the Université Laval in 1994, when joined the public service in 1994. In 2017, he was appointed as Canada's Chief Air Negotiator, and in 2020, Dean and Director General of the Canadian Foreign Service Institute.

Canada Statement on International Day of Peace

On International Day of Peace, 21 of September, the Honourable Mélanie Joly Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Harjit Sajjan Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, and the Honourable Sean Fraser Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, issued the following statement:

"In his 1957 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Lester B. Pearson said, 'Of all our dreams today there is none more important-or so hard to realize-than that of peace in the world. May we never lose our faith in it or our resolve to do everything that can be done to convert it one day into reality'.

"For all that has changed in the world in the 65 years since Prime Minister Pearson received the Nobel Prize, the importance of peace-and its elusiveness-remains constant. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person, and Canada is determined to support peaceful and prosperous societies around the world that respect human rights and diversity...

Peru Expoalimentaria 2022
Expoalimentaria 2022 would generate business for US$ 320 million

800 international buyers and 330 national and foreign exhibitors met at the fair, organized by the Association of Exporters (ADEX), PromPeru, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Buyers from Russia, the US, France, Argentina, and Colombia expressed their interest in pisco derivatives such as brandy, macerates, and creams with a variety of fruits, due to the organoleptic characteristics of the national distillate. From January to July the export of Pisco increased by 70%.

The 11th Innovation Contest, which promotes business ingenuity and creativity in the development of new and better products, was held at the closing ceremony. The award for Best Innovative Product went to "Quinuacao" from the company Andes Foods Peru S.A.C.

Another innovative product was the "Chicha Morada filter" with anise, hierba luisa, and cedron, which makes this drink a healthy and pleasant-tasting alternative. Value-added products such as chocolate with ginger, aloe vera with aguaymanto, cocona nectar, and sweet pepper jam, also surprised and interested the consumers in European countries.

The G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting (AMM) - Highlights

The Agriculture Ministers Meeting (AMM) was held in Bali on September 27-29, 2022. This meeting was the pinnacle of the G20 Agriculture Working Group (AWG) series of meetings.

For the whole day, exhibitions of agricultural products enlivened the AMM. The exhibition concept was in line with the AWG's theme this year, which is "Balancing Food Production and Trade to Fulfill Food for All".

The AMM exhibition was organized based on the three main priority issue. The first issue being promoting resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems. The second issue is promoting an open, fair, predictable and transparent agricultural trade to ensure food availability and affordability for all. The final issue is innovative agri-preneurship through digital agriculture to improve farmers' livelihood in rural areas.

PERUMIN 35 Mining Convention - Highlights

PERUMIN, one of the most important mining events in the world, organized by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP) since 1954, has its 35th edition motto as "Building a better Peru together" with which it seeks to promote a multi-stakeholder dialogue between the State, companies, and civil society.

Some of the highlights:
Christine Gibbs Stewart, CEO of Austmine Ltd. in Australia, spoke about the METs, a model praised within the mining sector, which generates an articulation between suppliers of equipment, technologies, and services for mining. The METS sector is recognized as one of the most technologically advanced, innovative, and internationalized in Australia.

Augusto Cauti, a member of the TIS Forum, questioned whether Peru considers lithium a strategic resource when there is still no tacit development of it, and yet copper is not properly exploited, which is evidence of its abundance in the country.

The start-up of the first autonomous trucks in Peruvian mining, by Ferreyros and Caterpillar, was highlighted as an event of maximum importance in the sector, after the successful delivery of 28 autonomous Cat 794 AC trucks, with a capacity of 320 tons, to the Quellaveco mine.
