Peruvian Canadian Institute Virtual Summit 2021
Bilateral Cooperation

The Virtual Summit 2021, organized by the Peruvian Canadian Institute of the Huntington University with the support of the Embassy of Peru in Canada, took place on May 20 as part of the activities to commemorate the Bicentennial of Peru in Canada.

The signing of MoUs with the Peruvian universities: Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa, and Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria, was a great achievement. It will allow to establish channels of international cooperation, exchange of knowledge and joint innovation.

The Summit featured panel discussions and keynote presentations on Education, Indigenous Relations and Economic Development. The Peruvian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce was presented with a Distinguished Fellowship in recognition of outstanding contributions in the area of Economic Development between Peru and Canada.

Canada Supports Mining Literacy during National Mining Week
Inclusive Mining

On May 12th, the Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Natural Resources, announced $130,000 for five projects to promote mineral literacy and build a more inclusive mining industry. This announcement came as National Mining Week got underway, a week highlighting the important role mining plays in Canada's economy.

"Minerals and metals are essential to lowering emissions and to building our net-zero future. Investing in mineral literacy is investing in our youth and the future talent of the mining sector", stated Seamus O'Regan.

Autonomy is already a reality in Peruvian mining. Ferreyros, the Caterpillar representative in Peru, puts the country's first autonomous trucks into operation at the Quellaveco copper project.

For several years, Ferreyros saw the importance of autonomy, which led to training and exchange of experiences with the factory and other Cat dealers in countries such as Australia, Canada, and the United States. And so today, Peruvian engineers and technicians from Ferreyros, together with Caterpillar, have been making autonomy possible in Peru.

The development of intelligent electrical grids or Smart Grids, which are already applied in Peru in different projects in the sector, allow the integration of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) with the provision of energy on the electrical network, paving the way for interconnected services.

Thanks to the management of the Consulate General of Peru in Toronto, this July 28, Niagara Falls and the iconic CN Tower will be illuminated with the Peruvian national colors, in homage to the commemoration and celebrations of Peru's Bicentenary.

July 28, 10:00 pm EDT - the Niagara Falls will be illuminated in red and white for fifteen minutes, courtesy of "The Niagara Falls Illumination Board". You will be able to watch it at this LIVE CAM link.

July 28, 8:44 pm EDT - the CN Tower will light up in red and white until midnight, courtesy of "LA TOUR CN TOWER". You will be able to watch it at this LIVE CAM link.
