CONCYTEC inaugurates National Innovation Week that will address the health situation
National Innovation Week 2020 will address the current health situation.
On September 21, the National Council of Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) inaugurated the National Innovation Week, which in this edition is adapted to the new coexistence generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The presentations were held until September 25.
The president of CONCYTEC, Dr. Fabiola León-Velarde, and the Minister of the Environment, Kirla Echegaray Alfaro, opened this meeting, which featured nine plenary sessions and more than 80 workshops.
During the inauguration, León-Velarde highlighted that the institution works to increase competencies in science, technology, and innovation (STI); as well as raising the budget and improving the institutional framework and public policies in STI.
“The COVID-19 has given greater prominence to science and has been an opportunity for institutions to propose quick alternatives that can face the challenges of the pandemic and we will see many examples of this (during National Innovation Week),” she said in the live broadcast.
In addition, she highlighted the promotion of the financing of projects of more than a thousand Peruvian researchers and scientists. To date, there are at least six COVID-19 diagnostic kits and 17 medical device projects underway.
Online activities
The CONCYTEC event -which was broadcasted on Facebook- brought together national and international speakers with the aim of highlighting the actions of the public and private sectors aimed at innovation in technologies and mechanisms that may be useful to face the current health situation.
Some of the issues that were addressed are the Andorran government’s strategy as a smart city to face the current health situation, innovation, and social enterprises to reduce social gaps in the context of COVID-19, the inclusion of citizens for the development of the digital transformation policy and strategy in the context of the pandemic, the National COVID-19 Survey and the application of the Peru project in your hands.
National and international speakers presented on the four thematic axes: Strengthening the Ecosystem; Ecosystem Sustainability; Financing and Support Instruments, and Social Innovation.
International speakers included Salvador Coll, president of the Valencian Science Parks Network (Valencian Community, Spain); Jae – Hoon Lee, former president of the Korea Technoparks Association (KTPA); Elizabeth Blandon, former Director of Digital Government of Colombia and former Vice Minister of Digital Economy (E); Jordi Gallardo, Minister of Presidency, Economy, and Business of the Government of Andorra; Thomas Meagher, Center for Biological Diversity, University of St. Andrews; Amparo de San José, IESE, Spain, and Luis Martínez Cerna, Director of Business Development at the Center for Innovation and Circular Economy – CIEC. Chile.
This event was organized by public and private institutions. These included CONCYTEC, PCM, Minedu, Minsa, Minagri, Produce, Mincetur, Vivienda, Minam, Mincul and Midis. As well as Fondecyt, Promperú, Innóvate Perú, INS, Indecopi, Cenfotur, ITP, INIA, PNIA, PNIPA, GRI, AECID, Fondep, Sencico, Cofide, Shift Perú, and Onudi.
