Canada donates $ 261 thousand dollars to Peru to face COVID-19

To support the health emergency in Peru by Covid-19, the Canadian government donated C $ 261 thousand (about US $ 193 thousand), which will be used to purchase personal protective equipment and laboratory supplies to strengthen diagnostic capacity and infection control.

“Canada is committed to doing everything possible to help Peru in these difficult times of pandemic. It is time to show solidarity through bilateral and multilateral cooperation to support local efforts against COVID-19. Only by working together will we be successful” said Mr. Ralph Jansen, Canadian Ambassador to Peru.

Dr. Rubén Mayorga thanked the Government of Canada for this contribution that will allow strengthening technical cooperation in a decentralized manner, “I want to express our appreciation for this important contribution that will allow strengthening technical cooperation in the regions most affected by this pandemic. Canada has a long history of cooperation in the Americas region with a special focus on vulnerable populations, such as indigenous peoples” he said.

This donation is the response to the call made by PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) to raise nearly $ 95 million to support the health emergency in the Americas region, which aims to prevent and control infections, monitor, guarantee laboratory capacity, case management, and risk communication.
