PROMPERU and TFO Canada to promote export development of women-led SMEs
The technical cooperation agreement signed between the Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism of Peru (PROMPERU) and the Trade Facilitation Office of Canada (TFO Canada) has allowed the development of the project “Women in Trade for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”, aimed at strengthening the capacities and internationalization of more than 100 Peruvian companies in the agribusiness sector, including those led by women. This initiative is carried out with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through Global Affairs Canada.
From April 20 to 22, seven of the selected SMEs participated in the SIAL 2022 fair, and later they will do so in the CPMA 2023 fair. They will also be part of a virtual trade mission that will allow them to promote their products in the Canadian market. The project seeks to promote more equitable participation of women in the decision-making and leadership of institutions linked to the export process.
Investing in people, particularly women-led SMEs, reinforces TFO Canada’s contributions to economic development in Peru. It is important to point out that the project “Women in Trade for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth” is directed at the agri-food sector, with the aim of overcoming the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in training and promoting their participation in international trade.
