Peru: Non-traditional exports volume up 10.4% in September 2018

According to INEI’s Technical Report on Evolution of Exports, the farming sector posted an 11.4% rise, underpinned by greater sales of blueberries (+26.5%), avocados (+1,065.3%), fresh tangerines (+12.8%), and bananas —including Cavendish type— (+14.5%).

Likewise, the fishery sector registered higher transactions of squid, giant squid, and cuttlefish (+108.1%), as well as shrimp tails with shells (+130.9%).

Furthermore, non-metallic mining products recorded a favorable result (+7.0%), driven by greater sales of natural calcium phosphate (+43.0%) and glass containers intended for freight transport (+27.1%).

However, the following sectors posted declines: iron-steel (-25.2%), metal-mechanic (-8.1%), chemical (-6.9%), and textile (-3.7%).

On the other hand, total exports volume slid 6.9% in September compared to a similar month in 2017.

Nevertheless, between January and September 2018, real exports increased by 7.3%.

The top export destinations were China, the United States, Spain, Japan, and South Korea.
