Katherine Wetmore
Partner
KPMG in Canada

Katherine Wetmore is a partner in KPMG’s Risk Consulting practice and has specialized in the Energy and Natural Resources sector, servicing some of Canada’s largest mining companies. She has significant experience providing internal and external audit, risk and control services, and accounting and transaction assistance to companies at all stages in the mining life cycle.

Katherine has a deep understanding of internal control certification requirements, including both SOX and NI 52-109, and is also a Lean-in-Audit facilitator, assisting companies to apply Lean principles to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their processes through external and internal audits. Katherine focuses on helping companies identify and manage their risks, and provide assurance on whether everything is operating as it should.

 

Luis Marchese
Chief Executive Officer
SIERRA METALS Inc.

Luis Marchese is Chief Executive Officer and Director at Sierra Metals. He has over 25 years of experience in the mining sector. Having spent the majority of his career with Anglo American, he held progressive positions including that of Country Manager, Senior Advisor to the CEO, and General Manager of the Quellaveco and Michiquillay Projects in Peru.

He has served as President of Peru’s Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) from 2017 to 2019. He is currently Director of CONFIEP and a member of Advisory bodies for different industry and academy organizations. Mr. Marchese holds a Master of Science degree in Mineral Economics from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Catolica in Peru. He has completed an AMP from GIBS – University of Pretoria, and an ASMP delivered jointly by the University of Cambridge and the University of Queensland.

Javier del Rio is Vice President of the South America Business Unit and responsible for strategic and operational performance in the region. He joined Hudbay in 2010 and was Executive Director of Business Development in South America. He has over 25 years of mining experience and, prior to joining Hudbay, held management positions in business planning, project analysis, and evaluation, process improvement, and strategic capital planning with Newmont Mining Corporation in the U.S. and Peru.

He is a Mining Engineer from the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI) with an MBA with a specialization in Finance from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Former professor of mining and business at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP), as well as at the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI). A frequent speaker at international forums on mining and business-related topics.
