Dr. ROSA GALVEZ – Honorable Senator for Quebec, Senate of Canada

Dr. Galvez, a sanitary engineering graduate from Peru, holds a master and doctorate in environmental engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and was appointed under the recommendation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as an independent Senator for Québec in 2016. She was the Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources from 2017 to 2019.

An award-winning researcher and author of hundreds of scientific articles, Senator Galvez is currently the Vice President for the Canadian branch of ParlAmericas. She is also the Treasurer on the Board of Directors of ParlAmericas and the Vice President (North America) of ParlAmericas’ Parliamentary Network on Climate Change.

 

STEPHAN THEBEN – Managing Principal, Mining Sector Lead, SLR CANADA

Mr. Theben has provided engineering and environmental services for over 20 years for mining and other projects in over 25 countries in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. His experience includes work with pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, EPCM, site construction, environmental assessments, management plans, environmental permitting, and stakeholder consultation, including Indigenous Communities.

As the mining sector lead for SLR Canada, an international environmental and advisory consulting firm, his work involves supporting clients and projects with the right expertise at the right time, by providing a strong focus on deliverables, schedule, and budget, through the integration of engineering, economics and environmental aspects resulting in strong mining projects.

 

MODERATOR

KURT BREEDE – Founder and Lead Executive Officer, Newton Minerals Corp.

Kurt is a geological engineer with over 24 years of experience in the international mineral resource industry. He began his career as an exploration geologist working in remote regions of Canada’s north, later transitioning into the mining technology sector as a business analyst for leading software developer, Gemcom Software.

Prior to forming Newton, the world’s first non-profit sustainable mineral development agency, Kurt was Vice President and Partner at Watts, Griffis, and McOuat Limited geological and mining consultants. Kurt is also the current Chair of the CIM Toronto Branch and a director of Renforth Resources Inc.
