Lovers of Peruvian Pisco Sour have reason to celebrate the country’s cocktail this February 5: World Pisco Sour Day.

Over the years, Pisco Sour has become part of the national identity, pride, and joy of every Peruvian. Whether there is something to celebrate, coming together with friends, or welcoming strangers and foreigners, this drink is always there.

For this reason, the Pisco Sour was declared Cultural Patrimony of the Nation in 2007 by the National Institute of Culture (INC), and the first Saturday of February of each year was decreed as its commemorative day.

And, at the gates of a new celebration, we want to share with you the PROMPERU catalog with the history of Peruvian Pisco and the preparation of the majestic Pisco Sour, among other recipes (Chilcano, Capitan, Pisco Point, Pisco Tropical).

By way of background since many people in Canada are not familiar with the brandy produced in winemaking regions of Peru, the Pisco Sour cocktail is said to have been created by Victor Vaughen Morris, an American bartender working in Cerro de Pasco, a city in central Peru. In 1916, he opened Morris’ Bar in Lima (Boza Street, today Jirón de la Unión) and it quickly became popular with the Peruvian upper class and visitors. However, the way it is prepared today was established in 1993 at the ‘Maury Hotel’.
