Greetings from Mr. Italo Acha, Consul General of Peru in Toronto
This July 28th, all Peruvians will be celebrating with great pride two hundred years of our National Independence. Peru, a peace loving-nation located in the central part of South America is a country rich in natural resources, with one of the greatest mega biodiversities in the world, including the Amazon rain forest, the Highlands of the Andes and the Coastal region along the generous Pacific Ocean.
The history of Peru reflects a tremendous legacy coming from ancient times and the pre-Incas cultures like the Chavin, Mochica, Chimu, Nasca, Paracas, among others. Home of Machu Picchu, Kuelap, Chan Chan, including many others stunning historical sites. During the early years of our Republican times, Peru received an important influx of immigrants from Europe, mainly Italians; from Asia, including Chinese and Japanese people; as well as African populations that integrated into our nation and its different economic activities.
Today, Peruvians are very proud of this generous legacy we have inherited with great responsibility, and we are strongly committed to working together, living in a democracy, pursuing a better and sustainable development for future generations to come.
Peruvians living abroad are also very important for our country since each and every citizen overseas, including our large community in Toronto, represent our country and our people. We are honoured to witness how many Peruvians are fully integrated with many aspects of the Canadian society, contributing with his skilled labour, professional abilities, and hard workings. Moreover, we have been able to successfully introduce our awarded Peruvian gastronomy as an attractive option for the enjoyment of all Canadians.
This July 28th we will celebrate our country, our people, our rich culture and renew our commitment to forging a prosperous nation for the next centuries.
The Consulate of Peru in Toronto, with the respective Canadian authorities, have organized in our National Day, the illumination of the Niagara Falls and the CN Tower in Toronto, with the colours of our national flag. We hope you will join us in this historical moment.
Felices Fiestas Patrias!
ITALO ACHA
