Government of Canada and “Plan International” deliver protective equipment to Health centers and Hospitals in Loreto

The Loreto Health Directorate and the Ministry of Health indicate that, to date, 7 out of 10 inhabitants of the city of Iquitos have contracted COVID-19, with those under 20 years of age being the most affected by the high rates of contagion.

To respond effectively to the emergency in this area, the Government of Canada and “Plan International” deliver $ 205,000 Canadian dollars in personal protective equipment. This donation will benefit the health personnel of 26 Health Service Providers – IPRESS and 02 hospitals in the region.

“Canada is committed to assisting Peru to ensure the timely provision of health services in the midst of this health emergency due to the new coronavirus”, said Mr. Ralph Jansen, Canadian Ambassador to Peru.

 

Response plan against COVID-19.

In the Amazon region, it is expected to continue with the work together with the Canadian government, delivering coronavirus prevention kits to 31,130 beneficiaries of the “Let’s Decide Now !” project in 70 communities.

“As part of our work promoting the rights of children and, seeking equal opportunities for all girls, during this pandemic we joined the promotion of safe ways to report cases of violence to minors. These actions will be carried out in coordination with local actors such as the Regional Government, local governments, protective institutions, health establishments, and the Kallpa Association”, commented Susy Valdiviezo, Manager of the Plan International Programs Unit in Loreto.

Actions to respond to the emergency due to COVID-19, within the framework of the “Let’s Decide Now!” project, are valued at more than half a million Canadian dollars and are being carried out in 05 districts of the region: Nauta, Belén, Iquitos, Punchana, and San Juan Bautista.

 

“Let’s Decide Now! : Reduce Teen Pregnancy in Loreto” project.

With a total contribution of C $ 11.2 million (to be executed until 2023), the Government of Canada and its partners “Plan International” and Kallpa, work to prevent sexual violence and unwanted pregnancy, aiming to transform the lives of 59 thousand girls, boys and adolescents in Loreto, Peru.
