PERUMIN 36 is the leading Mining Convention in Latin America and the world, which will take place from September 25 to 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center, in Arequipa. This great event, organized by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), will bring together the most prominent leaders of the global mining sector, investors, researchers and professionals to analyze the challenges and opportunities of the mining industry.
The PERUMIN 36 International Meeting will take place on the afternoons of September 26 and 27, and it will have the valuable participation of Canada, an Allied Country in this edition, represented by Louis Marcotte, Canadian ambassador to Peru and Bolivia, as well as the canadian professionals who are part of the program.
This year it presents two pillars of discussion: innovation and sustainability, within the framework of the advances of the global mining industry and the trends in relevant topics that influence it, such as the energy transition, which increases the demand for critical minerals. Peru produces 8 of the 17 critical minerals for the global energy transition: copper, iron, lead, molybdenum, silver, zinc, indium and graphite.
Peru has an excellent opportunity like Canada by having reserves of critical minerals and some rare earths. With these deposits that will be necessary for the most modern technology, related to renewable energies, electromobility and telecommunications, Peru can be part of the leadership.
Over decades, Canada and its model of mining clusters-poles has been developing synergy and shared learning. Clusters are areas of great commercial activity made up of a critical mass of SMEs, universities, technical institutes and research centers. The supply value chain thus created involves thousands of talented local companies that not only supply the mines in the area of influence, but also export an increasing variety of goods and services to the global mining industry, having gained a reputation for quality and innovation around the world.
