Peru: Pisco exports up 8.2% in 1H 2018
On the other hand, sugarcane liquor shipments amounted to US$1.05 million between January and June of 2018, thus expanding 16.9% over the same period last year (US$904,000).
Peru’s distilled gin and gin exports experienced a slight increase of 2.2% in the first half of 2018 over the same period in the previous year.
According to the National Customs and Tax Administration’s (Sunat) statistics, beer and wine exports decreased considerably by 47.4% and 27%, respectively.
Domestic market
Regarding domestic consumption, CCL’s wine, liquors, and other beverages importers and merchants association chairman Javier de la Viuda pointed out beer is Peruvians’ most consumed alcoholic beverage.
According to him, the monthly average consumption of alcoholic beverages is 22 drinks per person, consisting of beer (18.3), followed by wine (2.3), and other liquors (1.4).
“Peru’s production levels are lower than those of neighboring countries, such as Chile and Argentina, or more developed ones like Spain, Italy, and the United States, where 37 drinks per month are easily surpassed,” De la Viuda expressed.
Remarks were made during the V Expo Drinks & Delifood, organized by Lima Chamber of Commerce and held last weekend.
Over 300 national and foreign wine brands, from Argentina, Spain, and Portugal, were present at the event featuring products such as pisco, rum, sparkling wine, and craft beer.
