COMEX Peru: Canada is positioned as the third destination for non-traditional exports

Between January and September of this year, China and the United States positioned themselves as the first export destinations, with US $ 9,836 million and US $ 3,926 million, respectively. However, Canada also achieved significant growth among the destinations of our shipments and ranked third, Comex Peru reported in its last newsletter.

Thus, traditional and non-traditional exports to this country achieved a growth of 184.1% and 59.8%, respectively.

“Specifically, the non-traditional ones reached their highest point in our entire commercial history with Canada and maintained a sustained growth in the last 3 years,” said Comex Peru.

Among the shipments that stand out are non-traditional agro-exports, which totaled a total of US $ 84 million, which meant an increase of 11.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, and concentrated 39.8% of non-traditional exports.

Among the most demanded products are fresh or dried tangerines, which led the ranking by registering sales of US $ 10 million, which represented 12.1% of the total, with a growth of 21.2% compared to a similar period of 2018.

The second product of our agricultural export basket was quinoa, with US $ 7 million, 8.2% of the total, and 3.3% less. Uncooked or frozen cooked mangoes were in third place, with US $ 7 million, 7.8% of the total, and 9.3% more. The products that followed were fresh grapes (US $ 6 million; 7.6%; + 239.6%) and fresh or dried mangoes (US $ 5 million; 6.3%; + 27.5%).

On the other hand, our exports of the steel and steel sector had high growth in the analysis period, going from US $ 4 million in 2018 to US $ 76 million this year, which meant an increase of 1,611% and concentrated 36 % of our total exports of the non-traditional item.

“This was a product of the alloyed raw silver shipments, which totaled a total of US $ 71 million,” they said.
