According to Customs figures, the commercial exchange between Peru and Canada has accumulated a total of US$ 32,500 million up to the present year 2022, since its entry into force.

Currently, it can be said that the agreement has been a complete success, experiencing an increase of 38% in the annual export value, compared to the figures reached in years prior to the agreement. Regarding agriculture, the president of PROTEC Rubén Carrasco was able to highlight how resilient the Agriculture sector has been, in the face of the Covid-19 health crisis and lately in the face of the world food crisis.

Mr. Carrasco added:
“Our Peruvian agriculture has never stopped, on the contrary, it has always stood firm, trying to ensure the supply of food to our cities and even to other countries in the world. The Peruvian is an entrepreneur by nature and if we add the fertile lands, the rivers that bathe our coasts, the diversity of resources, and the blessed climate that we have, we could say to the world that, as a country, we have great productive potential, we only have to strengthen cooperation and collaboration work as a single country.”

“As a union we have been working for more competitive and sustainable agriculture, we have to continue advancing in coordination with the different institutions of the agricultural sector, proof of this is the continuous workshops, forums, and training that we have carried out with various organizations crucial for agricultural development. such as the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), the Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA), the General Directorate of Agricultural Environmental Affairs (DGAAA), the Organization of United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO), La Molina National Agrarian University (UNALM), the Andean Community, the Oxford Committee to Help Against Hunger (Oxfam), the Promotion of Life (Fovida), GLOBALG. A.P for Latin America and the Entomological Society of Peru, among others.”

“On the one hand, we are reinforcing international workshops and actions linked to Field Schools (ECAs), directed in marginal areas such as Huancavelica, and Huancayo, among others, always ensuring an improvement in the quality of family farming. This cycle of workshops has been working with Senasa and some international organizations such as Oxfam of the Netherlands and Fovida, who fight to end the injustice of poverty.”

“In another direction, the workshops and actions of mutual cooperation for sustainable agriculture, and safety as the basis of our healthy diet were highlighted. Said actions were carried out with Global G.A.P. and in coordination with the US FDA. Regarding plant health, the Workshops and the meeting of experts such as Dr. Miguel Dita from Embrapa – Brazil to discuss the “Management and Prevention of Fusarium R4 Disease in Banana” were mentioned, in coordination with the NOBOA group from Ecuador and GLOBALG.A.P. The execution of a Pilot Plan for Training in the Use and Appropriate Management of Pesticides and Awareness in Valle Chillón.”

“These are just some actions without considering the regulatory work groups and the formulation of proposals, in the face of projects such as the Fertilizer Standard, and the fight against informality and smuggling. Everything, in order to be more competitive in quality, safety, and as always, respectful of the environment.”

“We are Protec, a business association, mostly Peruvian companies that strive to provide solutions to our farmers and we open our doors as always to the government of the day because we believe in unity and cooperation, even more so in these difficult times.
Consequently, we reaffirm our commitment to continue building, from our business community always committed to improving the quality of life of our farmers. We are a blessed country and we believe in unity honestly.”
