Textile del Valle and Lululemon, hand in hand with Sustainability
For some years, Textil Del Valle (TDV), whose main factory is in Chincha, Peru, and the Canadian company Lululemon have developed an alliance that goes far beyond commercial contracts. For 4 years now, various Sustainability programs have been carried out through the “Here 2 Be” program, which benefits the more than 3,000 workers that the Peruvian company has.
Among the main programs that have been worked on, the following stand out:
- Yoga & Nutrition: Health and wellness program launched in 2018, consisting of yoga sessions and nutrition classes to encourage a healthy lifestyle and diet.
- Lulu- Chakra: Since 2019, when a 15,000 square meter plot of land was allocated to the cultivation and harvesting of organic vegetables, which are distributed among the company’s employees.
- Yo Ando en Bici: subsidized bicycle program for employees of the Lima and Chincha plants, which encourages physical activity and non-polluting transportation.
The correct application of these programs, together with those of TDV (energy saving, fabric recycling, water treatment) led Lululemon to recognize them as the textile company with the greatest sustainable impact among all its suppliers in the world, as part of the Vendor Summit Awards 2021 held by the Canadian company last November.
In addition to this, the quality of the production of garments made in Peru has earned it to become one of the most important suppliers for Lululemon in producing the uniforms of the Canadian Olympic Team that will participate in the next Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022, held in the Chinese capital next February.
Undoubtedly, the balance so far has been of high impact and much greater development and growth of this relationship are expected for the coming years.
