The Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, concluded a productive trip to Bali, Indonesia, where she participated in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on July 7 and 8.

The Minister reaffirmed Canada’s strong commitment to multilateralism, recognizing that the most pressing issues of our time cannot be solved without global cooperation. She reiterated that the G20 could not ignore that one of its members, Russia, is violating international law with the invasion of its sovereign neighbour, Ukraine.

Throughout the meeting, the Minister met with a number of counterparts, including those from regions most affected by the growing food security crisis caused by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, and defended the principle of sovereign equality for all states with all G20 members.

The Minister rejected in the strongest terms Russia’s assertion that sanctions are responsible for the current global food security crisis. She noted Russia’s longstanding and well-known pattern of relying on disinformation to deflect blame onto Western countries and that Russia continues to attack one of the breadbaskets of the world, destroying Ukraine’s capacity to supply the world with key agricultural products.

To help address the global food security crisis, Canada is committed to doing its part. In addition to working hard to increase crop production at home, Canada is also looking for ways to increase its exports of fertilizers to help countries that will struggle the most with the food crisis. Canada has also recently announced $250 million in funding to help address the global food security crisis. This funding will address increasing global food and nutrition needs – especially for the most vulnerable and with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. Canada has also announced $52 million in funding to support agricultural solutions in Ukraine, including grain storage.

Minister Joly also called on the international community to fight against all export barriers and protectionist measures that would increase the price of food. She highlighted Canada’s support for the UN initiative to ensure the safe passage of grain and highlighted the need for a diplomatic solution reached with all parties acting in good faith.

Minister Joly thanked Indonesia for hosting this year’s G20 in difficult circumstances. Canada remains committed to the G20 and to working with its G20 partners to build a greener, fairer and more equitable future where no one is left behind.

MINCETUR and PROMPERU create a website to support Peruvian companies affected by the conflict in Ukraine https://perucanadacc.ca/mincetur-and-promperu-create-a-website-to-support-peruvian-companies-affected-by-the-conflict-in-ukraine/ https://perucanadacc.ca/mincetur-and-promperu-create-a-website-to-support-peruvian-companies-affected-by-the-conflict-in-ukraine/#respond Wed, 09 Mar 2022 18:22:18 +0000 https://pcccinfo.com/?p=33798 MINCETUR and PROMPERU create a website to support Peruvian companies affected by the conflict in Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, announced the implementation of a website whose objective will be to provide information of interest (problems related to shipments, transportation or purchases) for Peruvian importing and exporting companies whose performance has been affected by the economic impact generated by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict still in force.

This page will be accessible to any company and/or person, who may fill out a query form on the international economic situation at the link https://exportemos.pe/rusia-ucrania.

On the page, you can also find announcements of maritime and air agencies regarding export and import transport, as well as updated reports on the economic activity of international trade prepared by the network of Commercial Offices Abroad (OCEX) of PROMPERU.

The head of the portfolio highlighted the cooperation that is being carried out with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a recently created Public-Private Working Group with other business associations to ensure that the impact of the current international situation on the Peruvian economy is minimally possible. Sánchez assured that companies that make significant shipments to both Russia and Ukraine have been identified, to which it will be proposed to work commercially with alternative markets that allow the continuity of their operations.

Likewise, advice will be provided for importers of products that require contact with suppliers and access to alternative markets of origin. Faced with the closure of air spaces in the conflict zone, these consultancies will also be available to inform about alternative logistics routes whose cost does not have a greater significant impact on the fixed budget of the companies.

For its part, PROMPERU will sponsor informative regional events and webinars for the affected companies, as well as specialized training seminars for the search for alternative markets, logistics guidance tools, means of payment, among others.

Has Peru’s Vizcarra Outsmarted His Opponents? https://perucanadacc.ca/has-perus-vizcarra-outsmarted-his-opponents/ https://perucanadacc.ca/has-perus-vizcarra-outsmarted-his-opponents/#respond Sun, 20 Oct 2019 09:00:13 +0000 https://pcccinfo.com/?p=32467 Has Peru’s Vizcarra Outsmarted His Opponents?

Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra appointed new ministers this month as dismissed lawmakers’ challenges to his presidency died down. The new cabinet’s swearing-in followed the president’s invocation of the Constitution to dissolve Congress and call for new legislative elections, an act that triggered a standoff with opposition legislators and ultimately resulted in Vice President Mercedes Aráoz’s resignation.

Was Vizcarra’s move justified? What consequences does Congress’ dissolution have on Peruvian politics in the short and long terms? Is the president now more emboldened than ever, and will he finally be able to pass his controversial anti-corruption reforms?
