With only a few months to the celebration of 200 years of Independence and republican life in Peru, the call for the Bicentennial Innovators Award in Fisheries and Aquaculture was presented; an event organized by the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture, (PNIPA), attached to the Ministry of Production (#PRODUCE).

The Minister of Production, José Luis Chicoma said that this award seeks to value “initiatives that are contributing to promoting innovation, inclusion, and competitiveness in the ecosystem, recognizing that the productive apparatus is competitive in both fishing and sustainable aquaculture,” he said.

In her turn, Laura Martínez Silva, executive director of the Special Project for the Bicentennial of the Independence of Peru, highlighted this important initiative. “Despite so many complexities due to the pandemic, I recognize this work of men, women, and institutions that contribute to the development, social, economic and environmental from innovation in fishing and aquaculture, since it represents a hope for life and feeding”.

For his part, Juan José Miranda from #BancoMundial welcomed that the Fisheries and Aquaculture sector recognizes the importance of the innovation agenda in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. “This initiative will show the work done by thousands of innovators in the country. From public sector researchers, academics, private companies, representatives of organizations, civil society, fishermen’s association and all the actors of the innovation, fishing and aquaculture system that is highly variable and multiple in the country ”, he highlighted.

The event will also feature the participation of the outstanding scientist Marino Morikawa, an innovator in environmental technology and a member of the qualifying jury for the Innovators of the Bicentennial Award. “I congratulate the PNIPA for this distinction, which will not only help in the continuous improvement of the sector but also promote the talent and capacity of the young people who need it most due to this problem generated as a result of the pandemic,” he said.

Finally, within the framework of this important event, Rosa Huasasquiche, Commercial Manager of Coraqua Peru de Puno highlighted the valuable support they receive from PNIPA in the production of fingerlings at more than 4500 meters above sea level, inviting everyone to participate in this initiative.

Peru to export direct human consumption fishing products worth US$1.5 bn in 2018 https://perucanadacc.ca/peru-to-export-direct-human-consumption-fishing-products-worth-us1-5-bn-in-2018/ https://perucanadacc.ca/peru-to-export-direct-human-consumption-fishing-products-worth-us1-5-bn-in-2018/#respond Fri, 20 Jul 2018 08:22:02 +0000 https://pcccinfo.com/?p=32608 Peru to export direct human consumption fishing products worth US$1.5 bn in 2018

Peru’s fishery exports for direct human consumption will total US$1.5 billion in 2018 due to better oceanographic conditions, National Society of Industries (SNI) projected Monday.

According to SNI’s Fishing and Aquaculture Committee Chair Carlos Milanovitch, the recovery in catches of hake, giant squid, silverside, and dolphinfish —over the first five months of this year— is the result of the favorable conditions of Peru’s coastal waters.

“We believe export volume in this sector will increase 50% in 2018, going from US$1 billion to US$1.5 billion. This will mean a similar expansion in the employment of direct labor (…),” he underlined.

On the other hand, Milanovitch pointed out there are still no fishing licenses available for the capture of anchovy destined for direct human consumption, only for fishmeal production.

“There is no availability of fishing licenses for the capture of anchovy for direct human consumption, which must be fished in small quantities with higher costs (…),” he explained.

Likewise, the SNI officer affirmed that if the Government promotes anchovy fishing for direct human consumption, malnutrition and anemia —among children and the elderly— will be eradicated in a short time.

“(Anchovy is) A species with a high content of proteins and Omega oils that may reach large sectors of the population at a low cost,” he concluded.
